La Giogaia is a farmhouse built in the 1980s with earthquake-resistant features, originally intended for storing durum wheat harvested from the fields around Modica. The ground floor housed storage rooms, while the upper levels contained the apartments for the caretaker and Giusy's parents. When we moved to "Mauto" in response to the agricultural crisis, we decided to convert the upper accommodations to welcome travelers from around the globe. With time and dedication, we furnished the rooms to provide our guests with a comfortable and enjoyable stay. A particularly appreciated feature is the convenient parking available on the premises.
Opened in 1998, B&B La Giogaia emerged from our love for travel. Hosting guests allows us to "travel with our imagination" by learning about different stories and cultures. Giusy is an excellent cook, and I, Piero, am a good host. We enjoy offering simple yet genuine hospitality, without any frills, and our breakfast is one of the most cherished moments, featuring homemade products that give us the chance to chat and suggest tours to explore the area.
Located on the hill above Modica Alta, towards Giarratana, La Giogaia is situated in a peaceful district known as “Mauto.” According to old topographic maps, the area was referred to as “Manto” due to the large oak forest that once covered it. Today, only a few ancient trees remain, but the cool climate and tranquility of the area make it an ideal spot for relaxation. In the past, the people of Modica would spend their summer holidays here in country houses or old farmhouses, many of which still exist and tell the story of this captivating part of Sicily.
