The property
In the heart of Buja, along the Alpe Adria cycling route, lies Books&Bikes, a bed and breakfast that weaves together history, culture, and a passion for travel. This rural home, true to the architecture of Friuli's courtyards, was rebuilt following the 1976 earthquake, preserving the essence of the place and the memories of the generations that have lived here. The 18th-century well, once the center of daily life, still holds the echoes of the past, while the books and family-related artifacts tell stories of emigration, craftsmanship, and resilience.
The two spacious and cozy rooms are designed to provide comfort and a sense of identity. The Green Room, warm and inviting, features furniture that has belonged to the family’s ancestors since 1936, complemented by a uniquely styled bathroom inspired by the world of bicycles. The Purple Room, dedicated to iron, welcomes guests with forged decorative elements and a well-stocked bookshelf, encouraging time for reading and reflection.
Each morning, an Italian breakfast is served in individual baskets, allowing guests to enjoy it privately in their rooms. The simple and genuine morning fare includes yogurt, fruit, cereals, traditional pastries, and eggs prepared by the host, perfectly aligning with the philosophy of the place.
Books&Bikes is an ideal stop for cyclists, walkers, and curious travelers, conveniently located near the Gemona/Osoppo exit of the Palmanova–Tarvisio highway. More than just accommodation, it offers an invitation to slow down and explore the area with the same attentive gaze one uses to leaf through a good book. Traveling, much like reading, is a profound way to understand the world.
